(Photos) Princess Charlotte's Christening in England

Two-month-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Princess Charlotte and the fourth in line to the British throne, was christened on Sunday in England.

The baby was joined by her parents, brother Prince George, who is almost 2, great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, grandparents Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Michael and Carole Middleton and the Duchess of Cambridge's siblings Pippa Middleton and James Middleton. Charlotte had five godparents at the ceremony.

The christening took place in St. Mary Magdalene Church, a 16th-century chapel long frequented by the royal family, in Sandringham, Norfolk. William's late mother Princess Diana was christened there in 1961. 

Water from the River Jordan was used during the baptism, as it was during George's 2013 christening, which took place in London.

Prince George Wears Outfit Nearly Identical to what his father wore when he was his age

Today Sunday was Princess Charlotte's christening in England, her almost 2-year-old brother Prince George wore an adorable outfit nearly identical to the one sported by their father, Prince William when he was 2 and visiting his then-newborn brother Prince Harry at St. Mary's Hospital in London in September 1984.

George sported a short sleeve white shirt with a rounded collar and red trim and markings, paired with red shorts, white socks and black shoes. William had worn almost the same ensemble, with a slightly different patterned shirt.

The royal family is all about tradition. Charlotte wore the same christening gown as George-- handmade replica of a lace and satin garment used by the royal family for more than 170 years. The chapel where she was baptized, St. Mary Magdalene Church, is the same place where William's late mother Princess Diana was christened.

Presidency disowns Zahra Buhari's alleged controversial comment

 

 Some days ago, Zahra's former twitter handle called out Gambian President, President Yahya Jammeh over his remarks against gay people. 

The Presidency has released a statement saying that her account was hacked and that she had abandoned the said account a long time ago.

The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to unauthorized and unexpected Tweets by an account falsely linked to Zahra Buhari, one of the daughters of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following enquiries by a few foreign missions on the raging online controversy about unsavory comments against some foreign leaders purportedly made by her, we wish to state categorically that Zahra is indeed on Twitter but the offending handle @Zahra_Buhari has stopped being her own for a long time since it was compromised by hackers.

Tweets by this handle are therefore not her own and should be disregarded and considered as the work of hackers seeking to cause mischief between this country and other friendly states.

Zahra’s authentic handle is @ZmBuhari and any handle other than this on Twitter should be considered as fake and therefore fraudulent.

It also pertinent to state at this point that neither the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari nor the other children are presently on Twitter, Facebook or the various other platforms.

As they the explore the possibilities on this new territory, we request the general public to ignore the many accounts on various platforms in their names that currently exist. Such accounts, beside the authentic one cited above in the name of Zahra are unauthorized and therefore fake.

Wisconsin man threatens to kill President. Obama

A 55-year-old Tomah, Wisconsin man has  threatened to kill President Barack Obama, a criminal complaint and a warrant has been issued against him 

Brian D. Dutcher, 55, allegedly told a security guard at a La Crosse library, "the usurper is here and if I get a chance I'll take him out and I'll take the shot," referring to Obama, who was in Wisconsin promoting his proposal for overtime pay reform.

Dutcher who confirmed in an interview with the Secret Service that he made the remarks to the security guard also posted on Facebook on June 30 "that's it! Thursday I will be in La Crosse. Hopefully I will get a clear shot at the pretend president. Killing him is our CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY!"

Dutcher also told a La Crosse detective that his threat was serious and that "he would not have said what he said if he didn't intend to carry it out."

A law enforcement official on Friday said that Dutcher had been arrested and is currently being held pending initial appearance.

While threats against the White House and Obama are relatively common occurrences, Thursday's arrest warrant comes amid increased security measures leading into the July 4 holiday weekend and concerns of a terrorist threat.

Suicide bomber attacks Redeem Church, 6 persons dead

Six persons(including the suicide bomber)  have been confirmed dead in a suicide bomb attack at Redeem church in Jigawa area of Potiskum.

According to a report, the bomber entered the uncompleted Redeemed Christian Church of God at 9:55 am and detonated his explosives, killing the worshippers, including a woman and her two children as well as the pastor. 

Am eyewitness, Garba Manu said the bomber arrived at the church on a motorised rickshaw disguised as a worshipper, entered the church without raising suspicion and detonated the bomb instantly killing five worshippers, including three females and two males were in the church. 

“The dismembered body of the bomber was also recovered,” he said. 

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe state, has been hit repeatedly by Boko Haram Islamists in their six-year insurgency, including by suicide bombers.

The insurgents have also launched a series of attacks on mosques, villages and markets in neighbouring Borno state in the past few days, claiming more than 200 lives.

Kano Emir links insurgency to social media, internet

The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi, has linked forceful marriage of the girl-child, Boko Haram insurgent and similar social vices in Nigeria to exposure of youths to information technology and social media.

He spoke on Saturday at the 10th Annual Ramadan lecture organized by Voice of Nigeria (VON), NTA and FRCN, in Kaduna,.

According to the Emir, “the youth learn fast, new ideologies from the Internet and after watching they go to Iraqi and Syria to join the Jihadist groups.

“Are we still living in the era when a father can force his daughters into marriage without their permission? Yes, we are. Early marriage, yes we are in Nigeria, and it is hurting and destroying our society.

“We are the ones to address these social issues because they are problems.

“And, you know from taking her out of school and forcing her into marriage without education results in having a child from her who does not have a mother that can give the child proper training.

“That is a child that gets on drugs, India hemp or joins Boko Haram. All these things are connected. We have to face these challenges.

“Information technology and emergence of Internet and social media, today youth go on the computer and they learn Islam from Facebook and Twitter.

“They learn Islam from videos they watch on Facebook and after 14 to 15 hours watching new things they need to become jihadist.

“They get up and go to Iraq or Syria or somewhere and join the groups, and there are no controls.

“Right inside your house, your son can be sitting upstairs in the bedroom getting indoctrinated into an extremist group without your knowledge. We need to watch what our children watch. And we need to talk to them.

“If we do not give them the correct Islamic education, they will find the wrong education on the Internet.

“Now, this is very important because we have spent so much time in ignorance. I know we must send our children to school to acquire Western education which is very important.

“You have children going to England and becoming radicalised in America on the Internet not only in the muslim countries.

“So we need to make sure that we give our children correct Islamic education especially to take them away from religion extremism.

“In the 21st century, the Muslim ummah is facing enormous challenges.

“This century is facing challenges such as changing from traditional lifestyles to modern lifestyles, the increasing independence of women and awareness of their rights which represent huge challenges for this Boko Haram especially on matters of marriage and divorce.”

PDP insists on removal of INEC chair

The PDP yesterday insisted on the immediate removal of the newly appointed Acting Chairman of the INEC, Mrs. Amina Zakari.

The party said information at its disposal confirmed that Mrs. Zakari enjoys “a strong relationship” with President Muhammadu Buhari and an unnamed APC Governor in the Northwest.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, alleged in a statement that the unnamed governor was collaborating with APC to ensure that INEC, under Zakari, posts Resident Electoral Commissioners of its choice to Kogi and Bayelsa states ahead of the forthcoming governorship elections in the two states

The party also alleged that there were moves to use the period of Mrs. Zakari’s stay as head of the Commission to tinker with electoral personnel and materials for the two states in favour of the ruling APC.

According to him, “We want Nigerians to know that with this appointment, INEC has been stripped of its independence and can no longer command the confidence and respect of the citizens and all other critical stakeholders in the nation’s electoral process.

“We however find it astonishing, discouraging and disheartening that the spokesperson of the President will address Nigerians and lie to the entire citizenry that Mrs. Zakari never had any relationship with the President or an APC Governor in the Northwest. This is the height of deception coming from the respected office of the President of our dear country.

President Boyd K. Packer Dies At Age 90

Boyd K. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at home Friday, July 3, 2015, at 2 p.m. MDT from causes incident to age. He was 90 years old.

He served for over 50 years as one of the Church's general authorities.

For decades, President Packer declared the gospel of Jesus Christ and played a critical role in the growth and development of the global Church, which now numbers more than 15 million members.

He was born September 10, 1924, in Brigham City, Utah. He was a United States bomber pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theater. An educator by profession, President Packer’s career included service as supervisor of seminaries and institutes of religion for the Church and as a member of the administrative council of Brigham Young University.

Of all his teachings and messages, my favourite was at the Church's April 2014 general conference, where he said and I quote 

"After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.” unquote. 

This is really a sad news for Mormons all over the world and non-member who had close relationship with him or have been inspired by his teachings. 

Nigerian Professor’s Homosexual Son Becomes Woman

Many who knew Dapo Adaralegbe in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Obafemi Awolowo University have been wondering over what might have become of him.

 He was well known to be a homosexual back then on campus. He never dressed as a male and most girls on campus agreed that he was an expert in the use of cosmetics. Though his father was a Professor in Obafemi Awolowo University, Dapo was expelled from the university in 2001 over his identity crisis as most of his lecturers could not stand a male student in the Faculty of Law wearing make up and coming to class in mini skirts and other female outfits. He could have passed unnoticed but his weird styles often attracted attention to him. His braids usually reached his backside and when he chose to wear weave on, they were odd colours thus earning him second and third looks.

Back then, to prevent suspicion about his gender, he called himself Dade and not a few unsuspecting guys have asked him out only to later find out his true identity. He was once beaten up by a guy who had taken him out and thought he had a babe for the night. Trouble however started when they got to the university Guest House and the guy discovered that he had carried a homosexual. What he had in place of boobs were foam pads.

Things turned out bad for Dade as he had issues with his dad and at a point he was sleeping around Faculty buildings. Later he disappeared from Ife after which he was spotted around Ogundana, By that time, he had become known all over the street. Guys who mistook him for a lady because of his baby curls were usually called back and warned by neighbours.

However things have taken a new turn for Dapo as he has relocated and now lives as a woman in Spain where he has also taken a new name, Stephanie Rose.

Chile win Copa America, beat Argentina on 4-2 penalty

Hosts Chile ended a 99-year wait to win the Copa America, a football fiesta played by the South American nations, on Saturday, beating pre-tournament  favourites, Argentina 4-2 on penalty.

The final had ended in 120 minutes without a goal to separate the two teams.

In the penalty shootout, only Lionel Messi converted his kick among the three Argentines that tried from the spot while Chile converted their four kicks, with Arsenal striker Sanchez, converting the Chileans fourth penalty with a cheeky kick to wrap up victory for the hosts.

Buhari fires CSO over supremacy battle with ADC

President Buhari has fired his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Abdulrahman Mani, for engaging in a supremacy battle with the Aide-de-Camp to the President, Lt.-Col. Lawal Abubakar.

 Abubakar overruled the ADC on the removal of the DSS from the personal security of the President citing several extant provisions of the Law that makes It the statutory responsibility of the SSS to take charge of the personal security of the President rather than the army or any security agency.

Buhari is not happy that the Chief Security Officer had to take the matter to the press to explain why the DSS had the primary responsibility. 

Also the Administrative Officer in the Presidential Villa, Widi Liman who was earlier appointed by Buhari was said to have been redeployed to the Oyo State Command of the service.

It was further learnt that the new DSS boss had also ordered the reversal of some promotions carried out in the service during the last days of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

NFF sacks Keshi

The Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF)  has terminated the appointment of Stephen Keshi as Head Coach of the Senior National Football Team, Super Eagles.

A statement released on Saturday by the NFF Executive Committee said the decision was made, “having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee, as well as having reviewed the actions and inactions of Mr. Stephen Keshi, in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles’ Head Coach.”

The Federation said Keshi was found to ” lack the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives as set out in the Coach’s employment contract.”

” To this end and pursuant to the provisions of Clause 4.3 of the Employment Contract between Mr. Stephen Keshi and the NFF (The Contract) and the various clauses therein, the Nigeria Football Federation has decided to exercise its option to summarily terminate the employment contract of Mr. Stephen Keshi with the Federation with immediate effect.”

It added that the termination was “without prejudice to the settlement of any existing and due financial obligations between the NFF and Mr. Keshi.”

Car bombs kill 11 in Baghdad at end of Ramadan fast

Two car bombs killed 11 people in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday (today), police and medical sources said, striking as many people were ending their daily Ramadan fast.

One bomb hit the mainly Shi'ite Amil district in the southwest of the city around dusk, killing eight people and wounding 27. The other hit a bus garage in Doura in the south of the capital, killing three people.

Northeast of Baghdad, in the town of Balad Roz, a third car bomb killed two people, local police said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Islamic State fighters who control large parts of western and northern Iraq frequently set off bombs in the capital.

Iraqi security forces and mainly Shi'ite militias are struggling to contain the hardline Sunni Islamist militants in Anbar province west of Baghdad. To the north, they are battling for full control of the town of Baiji and its nearby refinery.

Tunisia declares state of emergency over beach massacre

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi has declared a state of emergency following last week's beach massacre that killed 38 foreign tourists.

The country's emergency law temporarily gives the government more executive flexibility, hands the army and police more authority, and restricts certain rights such as the right to public assembly.

An earlier state of emergency was lifted in March 2014, having been in force since longtime president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was overthrown in a 2011 revolution.

Tunisia has faced a surge in violence since the revolution and dozens of police and soldiers have been killed since then and the June 26 beach attack in the town of Sousse was the second deadly attack in three months, following a shooting rampage at its national museum in the capital Tunis that killed 22 people.

Seun Kuti Receives US Congress Recognition For Late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti

Seun Kuti who just concluded his tour in Texas, received a letter signed by Congress Woman, Sheila Jackson Lee representing District of Texas.

In the letter was conveyed a statement of a post-humous honour given to the Late Afrobeat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti from the United States Congress years 18 years after he passed on

Seun Kuti shared the good news with fans on facebook.

He added a caption, “Nigerian house of assembly, over to you!! #lifeondroad. We are truly humbled. We thank the city of Houston and the United States congress. Special thanks to everyone in Houston who made it happen and congress woman Jackson.”

A part of the statement read, “I take great pride in specially recognizing Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti who was known to most as Fela Kuti for his musical gift which has been an outlet for many. Fela Kuti was the pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, paving the way for those to come after him. I salute you for your commitment to musical excellence. Teenager hangs self after parents refused to build toilet

A 17yr old girl, Khusboo Kumari committed suicide because her parents refused to build a toilet in the house, police said on Saturday.

Kumari was found hanging Friday inside her home on the outskirts of Dumka town in the eastern state of Jharkhand, It seems she had repeatedly asked her parents to build a toilet in the house as she was embarrassed to go out to the fields to defecate, but they ignored her." superintendent of police Vipul Shukla was quoted saying. 

Her parents reportedly told her that they were saving money for her marriage and could not spend it on a toilet.

The officer said the initial investigation suggested Kumari committed suicide but that all possibilities were being looked into.

According to the 2011 census, Jharkhand is one of India’s poorest states, lagging in many development indicators and about 78 per cent of households there do not have toilets.

In India, women have the added problem of lack of security if they have to use open fields away from their homes at odd hours.

“The girl’s parents did not realise how important it was for her to have a toilet at home,’’ it further said.
