Rivers PDP accuses Amaechi of embezzling funds

Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, of mopping up funds to the detriment of the people of the state for his political ambition.

The accusation was made by the PDP 24 hours after the state House of Assembly unanimously approved another sum of
N19billion for the governor with no specific attachment.

PDP said the N19 billion taken from the state reserve funds was a cover-up for all the state funds embezzled and diverted for personal and All Progressives Congress (APC) interests by the governor.

In a statement by the state Chairman of the party, Felix Obuah, said the way Amaechi is going about the purported withdraws with no evidence of what he spent the previous ones on leaves no one in doubt that such reserved funds never existed.

“Should Governor Amaechi insist he is not being unnecessarily smart and fooling the people, the PDP demands, he should be bold enough to make public the banks used for the transactions and the details of such savings and withdrawals..

“The truth is that he (Amaechi) used all the state money to pursue the numerous court cases against him and his acolytes, sponsoring campaigns against President Goodluck Jonathan which caused him heavily through frequent travels and meetings, honorariums to his army of visiting fake supporters from the North and West.

“He has incurred irretrievable debts which can only be covered by such fraudulent illegal approvals by his accomplice lawmakers,” the PDP alleged.

The party further recalled that only about four months ago Amaechi was given a similar approval to access over N30 billion from the same reserve funds allegedly for completion of ongoing projects which only he, and his authorizing lawmakers know where they are located which is yet to be accounted for before getting another round of approval.

The PDP believes the only rationale for the current purported approval is to use the remnants in the state treasury to pay for Gen Muhammadu Buhari’s fee for the APC Presidential ticket “which Amaechi is seriously lobbying to be paired as his running mate.

“Unfortunately, he is wasting his time because he will be betrayed again but before he realizes this he would have mortgaged the entire state,” the PDP regretted”.
